MATCH HIGHLIGHT

In November 1991, LS Nikki was introduced to BS Liz – that is 10 years ago, folks!  Nikki was 6 years old.  Their first outing was to the roller-skating rink, about which they enthusiastically told their casemanager, Diane.  Throughout the years, through moves and changes, their match has blossomed into a lasting friendship.  Their activities have included the annual Sailing Group Activity and volunteering at the Animal Shelter, as well as many other things as their interests have grown and changed.

Now a Junior at FHS, Nikki is actively creating her own destiny.  She is a hard working student and has also become involved with several community service activities.  Last fall Nikki was matched as a Lunch Pail Pal mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.  She visits her own “Pal”, Cassandra, in the first grade at Elrod School once a week.  We are thrilled that Nikki has chosen to be a mentor with our agency, and pass on the legacy of being one more caring adult in the life of one child.  Thank you to both Liz and Nikki for their commitment to BBBS and the ways they make a difference!

I would like to introduce you to a 9-year match.  The special ladies in this match are Amy & Grace.  Amy had just turned 7 when she was matched with Grace, a retired first grade teacher.  Amy and Grace have had many life changes but they have stayed matched through thick and thin with Amy being very close to 16.  Amy has had so many accomplishments and Grace is always there to cheer her on.  Amy was a spelling bee champion in her school for 2 years in a row, has played the flute in the band, now sings with “Valley Voices”, enjoys Karate and has been in several plays.  Big Sister Grace recognizes Amy’s love of music, drama, and animals.  She has always nurtured Amy’s interest in the theatre by taking her to plays in Bigfork, Kalispell, and Whitefish.  Amy loves animals so we visited between playing with the llamas and a picnic at a recent group activity.  Her Big Sister Grace is “sweet, kind, gentle, and generous”.  Amy seems so pleased to have learned about horses and other animals at Grace and Art’s farm.  Amy and Grace have become really good friends with love and respect for each other, putting a little magic in each other’s life.
